Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, administer, monitor, secure, back up, and optimize MongoDB, MySQL, MariaDB, and other database environments across development, staging, and production systems.
- Manage and maintain both SQL and NoSQL database systems, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and data reliability.
- Collaborate closely with software development, DevOps, and SRE teams to support application databases, data-driven products, and reporting systems.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective performance-tuning strategies.
- Plan and manage database backup, recovery, replication, migration, and disaster-recovery processes.
- Configure, maintain, and optimize NoSQL databases and distributed database clusters based on project requirements.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python, Shell, or other scripting technologies for database administration and operational tasks.
- Monitor database health, capacity, security, and availability across production and non-production environments.
- Troubleshoot database, Linux, and infrastructure-related issues and work collaboratively to resolve critical technical problems.
- Follow database security, access-control, data protection, and operational best practices.
- Contribute to database architecture and technology decisions for scalable and reliable software products.
- Participate in production support and provide timely assistance for critical database-related incidents when required.
- Stay updated with emerging database technologies, tools, and best practices and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with MySQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, or other SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Good understanding of database architecture, indexing, query optimization, replication, backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
- Practical experience working with Linux/Unix environments.
- Strong understanding of both relational and non-relational database concepts.
- Experience with database monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Knowledge of scripting and automation using Python, Shell, or similar technologies.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and work effectively in a fast-paced software development environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with development and infrastructure teams.
Good to Have
- Experience with Oracle, Cassandra, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
- Experience managing highly available or distributed database clusters.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and cloud-based database services.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, or infrastructure automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
